What is FIMUM?
The International Women in Music Festival is an initiative that seeks to make visible the work of female composers throughout history. With its main headquarters in Mexico, this annual festival celebrates music created by women through concerts and related activities. Its objective is to break gender stereotypes in the artistic world and promote equal opportunities for female composers. Thanks to this festival, it is possible to disseminate works by little-known female composers and stimulate the musical creation of new generations.
Our goals
-
Making the work of female composers visible
To make known to the public the works of female creators, both past and present, who have often been relegated to the background.
-
Promoting gender equality in music
Create a space where women composers can present their works and be recognized for their talent.
-
Promote musical research
To encourage research into the life and work of female composers, as well as into the role of women in the history of music.
-
Educate the public
Bringing classical and contemporary music closer to a wider audience, especially the younger generations
